2007 Schedule At A Glance

From the opener in Green Bay to the final regular-season game against Buffalo, the Eagles face all kinds of challenges in this 2007 regular season. Here is a preview of the season ahead, week by week, as you digest what is ahead for the Eagles -- and the fans -- this year.

SEPTEMBER 9, 2007
AT LAMBEAU FIELD
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Packers Lead 23-15
Eagles Record At Green Bay: 4-15
Last Meeting: October 2, 2006 -- Eagles, 31-9

Game Overview: Greg Lewis catches two TD passes in Monday night win.

Is this the final time the Eagles see quarterback Brett Favre who could be playing in his final NFL season? If it is, the Eagles can begin his farewell tour on a sour note as the Eagles open the season at Lambeau Field. This is the fourth straight season in which the Eagles play Green Bay and the Eagles are rolling with four straight wins against the Packers, including a playoff victory in the 2003 season.

Green Bay is an up-and-coming team. Favre returns to an offensive unit that has a strong, young line, some excellent wide receivers in Donald Driver and Greg Jennings and a running game that always manages to be effective. The Packers lost running back Ahman Green in free agency and are expected to either sign a free agent or use a high draft pick on a back.

The Packers defense was pretty solid last year and figures to improve as some of the young players mature. Lambeau Field is not the impossible place to play that it once was, but it still formidable and linebacker A.J. Hawk is a star in the making. The Packers aren't there yet, but they are definitely heading in the right direction once again.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
8:30 pm, ESPN
Regular Season Series: Redskins Lead 75-65-6
Eagles Home Record Vs. Redskins: 34-36-3
Last Meeting: Dec. 10, 2006 - Eagles, 21-19

Game Overview: Washington ran wild on the Eagles, but Philadelphia's defense made some big plays, including a Michael Lewis return for a touchdown and a Brian Dawkins sack, and the Eagles held on.

The home opener on Monday night? Wow, will that be a party! The Eagles have played well in prime time under head coach Andy Reid, and this is the first of two night games at home.

The first of four prime-time games comes at home against Washington, a team that has struggled since the return of head coach Joe Gibbs. The Redskins have a good running game -- so this is an excellent early-season test for the Eagles run defense -- and they are building around quarterback Jason Campbell.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Eagles Lead 14-12-2
Eagles Home Record Vs. Lions: 8-8
Last Meeting: Sept. 26, 2004 - Eagles, 30-13

Game Overview: Jevon Kearse recorded three sacks and the Eagles blistered Detroit in the third game of the season. Donovan McNabb threw for 356 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Lions need some pieces with which to contend in the NFC North this year. Second-year head coach Rod Marinelli has a project on his hands. Last year was not a good one for Detroit, which selected star WR Calvin Johnson in the draft. So this is a critical year in which to judge Marinelli, a tough guy who has brought a no-nonsense approach to a team in need of some discipline.

The Lions have some explosive players, notably wide receiver Roy Williams. The Lions have not been settled at quarterback or on defense, so there are some major holes to fill between now and the season.

SEPTEMBER 30, 2007
AT GIANTS STADIUM
8:15 pm, NBC
Regular Season Series: Giants Lead 79-67-2
Eagles Record At New York Giants: 29-45-1
Last Meeting: Jan. 7, 2007 - Eagles, 23-20
(Wild Card Playoffs)

Game Overview: David Akers sealed the deal in the playoff victory at Lincoln Financial Field. Brian Westbrook rushed for 141 yards and a TD in the win.

This is the first of two straight games at Giants Stadium. The Giants sure have a lot of question marks, but they have generally played well early in the season for head coach Tom Coughlin. This is an excellent early-season game in the NFC East. Can Eli Manning start the season off well and build confidence in his teammates? Is Tiki Barber's production going to be replaced by a two-headed halfback tandem?

New York's defense is suspect, especially in the secondary, and the Giants have done nothing to address the defensive backs. But they will have a raucous home crowd in their favor and that fan base will have a day to lube up and prepare for the Eagles.

OCTOBER 14, 2007
AT GIANTS STADIUM
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Eagles Lead 7-0
Eagles Record At New York Jets: 3-0
Last Meeting: October 26, 2003 -- Eagles, 24-17

Game Overview: The Eagles ran for 194 yards and Correll Buckhalter (100 yards on 15 carries) scored two touchdowns. Philadelphia's defense stopped the Jets on a fourth-and-1 play late in the game, a key moment.

Are the Jets ready to make a push deep into the playoffs? They certainly took major strides last year under new head coach Eric Mangini, reaching the playoffs and losing to New England. Now the Jets are ramping up. They acquired running back Thomas Jones from the Bears and think quarterback Chad Pennington is completely recovered from the injury that hampered him two seasons ago. With a young offensive line and an aggressive 3-4 defense, Mangini has a lot here. The Jets aren't particularly good in the secondary and they can be vulnerable to the running game, but this is a very solid and dangerous team.

Mangini comes from the Bill Belichick mold of thinking out of the box. It should make for a good coaching battle, too, and the teams look for favorable matchups.

OCTOBER 21, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
4:15 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Bears Lead 26-11-1
Eagles Home Record Vs. Bears: 7-11-1
Last Meeting: October 3, 2004 - Eagles, 19-9

Game Overview: Terrell Owens caught 8 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown and Brian Westbrook ran for 115 yards in the sloppy win. Philadelphia's defense limited the Bears to 224 yards of offense.

The defending NFC champions are having a tough off-season, having traded running back Thomas Jones and dealing with the headaches of the daily tough talk from disgruntled linebacker Lance Briggs, who does not want to play with a franchise tag attached to his contract.

Make no mistake, though, the Bears are still a very good team. The defense is tremendous, led by middle linebacker Brian Urlacher, and the special teams are a threat every time the ball is kicked in the direction of return man Devin Hester.

Quarterback Rex Grossman is the key piece, of course. He was the guy under center as the Bears compiled the best record in the NFC and then reached the Super Bowl, but he then had a poor game against the Colts and raised a new series of questions and doubts.

Chicago also has turned its running game over to third-year man Cedric Benson, a former first-round draft choice, and has made a few other changes in this off-season.

OCTOBER 28, 2007
AT THE METRODOME
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Vikings Lead 11-10
Eagles Record At Minnesota: 2-6
Last Meeting: January 16, 2005 -- Eagles, 27-14

Game Overview: Eagles win in NFC Division Playoff game as defense dominates Vikings and QB Daunte Culpepper.

Andy Reid squares off against Brad Childress, the former offensive coordinator here in his second season with the Vikings. Childress has the run all right - his halfback is Chester Taylor, who gained 1,216 yards on the ground last year, and the Vikings' run defense is among the best in the league - but Childress also has a lot of questions to answer after a disappointing first season in Minnesota.

First among the questions is this: Who is the quarterback? Second-year man Tavaris Jackson is the leading candidate, but he did not shine at all late in his rookie season.

Beyond that, Childress has to upgrade the receiving corps - he signed Bobby Wade in free agency and missed out on Kevin Curtis - and the Vikings still have some questions up front.

This will be a tough game for the Eagles in a hostile environment. The Eagles haven't played against the Vikings in Minnesota since 1997, losing 28-19 that day.

NOVEMBER 4, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
8:15 pm, NBC
Regular Season Series: Dallas Leads 53-42
Eagles Home Record Vs. Cowboys: 24-21
Last Home Meeting:
Oct. 8, 2006 - Eagles, 38-24

Game Overview: Lito Sheppard's interception and return for a touchdown capped a spectacular victory over Dallas and quarterback Drew Bledsoe. The Eagles simply made more big plays in a game full of them.

Does this game really need an introduction? Certainly, the venom and the buildup won't be quite as spectacular as it was for Terrell Owens' return to Philadelphia last year, but the prime-time attraction is hard to overlook here.

Dallas has an outstanding offensive setup, bolstered by right guard Leonard Davis, and quarterback Tony Romo has a lot of weapons at his disposal. The defense has major question marks, and the Eagles are going to look to exploit some matchups they feel are favorable.

Sunday night. Dallas in town. Is there anything else that needs to be said?

NOVEMBER 11, 2007
AT FEDEX FIELD
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Redskins Lead 75-65-6
Eagles Record At Washington: 31-39-3
Last Meeting: Dec. 10, 2006 - Eagles, 21-19

Game Overview: Washington ran wild on the Eagles, but Philadelphia's defense made some big plays, including a Michael Lewis return for a touchdown and a Brian Dawkins sack, and the Eagles held on.

It always seems the Eagles play in FedEx Field around this time of the year, doesn't it? Anyway, we are obviously going to know a whole lot more about how well the Jason Campbell Experiment is going at this point and how well Gibbs is faring in his attempt to turn the Redskins around.

The Eagles won a thriller at Washington last year, and are going to look to grab this key NFC East game on the road. It will be a big game, especially as it comes as part of two consecutive games in the division.

NOVEMBER 18, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
1 pm, CBS
Regular Season Series: Dolphins Lead 7-4
Eagles Home Record Vs. Dolphins: 3-2
Last Meeting: December 15, 2003 - Eagles, 34-27

Game Overview: The Eagles won their ninth straight game of the season by rolling up 401 total net yards, including 261 in the air. Donovan McNabb completed a 59-yard pass to Todd Pinkston on the first play of the game and never looked back.

What are the Dolphins all about? They are clearly in a transition phase after head coach Nick Saban left to become the new coach at Alabama. Cam Cameron is sorting through a lot of issues in Miami, and the quarterback question is at the top of the list. Trent Green is the new starting quarterback here.

Once they get the quarterback situated - it could be veteran Trent Green or it could be a draft pick - the Dolphins will try to rebound from a tough 2006. Miami is loaded on defense and added veteran linebacker Joey Porter to the group. He brings energy and emotion and should add some punch to the pass rush.

But the problems are deep in Miami, and at this point it looks like the Dolphins are in rebuilding mode again. The offensive line is suspect, the wide receivers are only OK and the huge question at quarterback looms.

NOVEMBER 25, 2007
AT GILLETTE STADIUM
8:15 pm, NBC
Regular Season Series: Eagles Lead 6-4
Eagles Record At New England: 1-3
Last Meeting: Feb. 6, 2005 -- Patriots, 24-21

Game Overview: Eagles fall short in bid to win Super Bowl XXXIX as first-half turnovers and inability to hold lead doom effort.

The teams meet for the first time since the Super Bowl. Both the Eagles and the Patriots have been busy in the off-season. New England has overhauled its receiving corps and now features former Eagle Donte' Stallworth and former Dolphin Wes Welker. Linebacker Adalius Thomas was the marquee free-agent signee, and the Patriots are expected to continue to add to the defense in the draft (they have two first-round draft picks).

Quarterback Tom Brady remains the leader of the offense. The Patriots fell one win short of another Super Bowl appearance last year and Brady, working with some suspect weapons, still came on strong late in the year and in the post-season.

The Patriots are gearing up for another Super Bowl trip and this game is a primo matchup and deserves to be on national television. Both the Eagles and the Patriots are Super Bowl contenders and the coaching staffs are both top shelf.

On the road, in New England, this is a great early-season test to see how good the Eagles are heading into the meat of the schedule.

DECEMBER 2, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Eagles Lead 6-4
Eagles Home Record Vs. Seahawks: 2-2
Last Meeting: December 5, 2005 - Seattle, 42-0

Game Overview: In one of the ugliest games in recent history for the Eagles, Seattle stomped its way to the win on Monday night and later reached Super Bowl 40.

Seattle is a Super Bowl contender with a very complete roster. The offense is powered by running back Shaun Alexander and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, along with a good group of receivers. Defensively, Seattle excels with its quickness, particularly at linebacker. The Seahawks signed defensive end Patrick Kearney in free agency, and if he returns to good health and full form, Seattle will be very good up front.

Hasselbeck didn't play particularly well last year after battling some injuries. He seemed to battle his confidence at times, but still took the Seahawks two rounds into the playoffs.

Head coach Mike Holmgren is one of the game's best and he will have Seattle ready for this showdown at Lincoln Financial Field.

DECEMBER 9, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Giants Lead 79-67-2
Eagles Home Record Vs. Giants: 38-34-1
Last Regular Season
Home Meeting: Sept. 17, 2006 - Giants, 30-24

Game Overview: In the second week of the 2006 season, the Eagles let a 21-point lead get away and New York fought back to win the game in overtime. The Eagles also lost defensive end Jevon Kearse for the season with an injury.

Eli, are you still starting? Are you a star yet? Or is this a miserable season in store for the Giants? December is a bear for the Eagles, who host New York here. The Giants have faced down the stretch for Coughlin in recent years. Will history repeat itself here?

What a great setup, though! New York in town for a key division battle in December, the first of two NFC East games in a row for the Eagles. New York likes to pound the football and traded for Rueben Droughns in free agency for that very reason. He teams with Brandon Jacobs in New York's backfield.

The Eagles think they can run the football a little bit, too, so this could be a battle on the ground at Lincoln Financial Field. The background story is this: Are the Giants -- Coughlin, Manning, everybody -- on solid ground?

DECEMBER 16, 2007
AT TEXAS STADIUM
4:15 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Cowboys Lead 53-42
Eagles Record At Dallas: 17-32
Last Meeting: Dec. 25, 2006 - Eagles, 23-7

Game Overview: One of the best overall performances of the year resulted in a sweet Christmas win; the Eagles defense allowed just 201 total net yards.

Another big late-season game in Dallas. Dallas has an excellent team and is probably the best threat to challenge the Eagles in the NFC East. The Cowboys signed Davis and safety Ken Hamlin and should be ready to roll under new head coach Wade Phillips.

The questions for Dallas: How does quarterback Tony Romo fare in his second season as the starter? Is the explosive mix of personalities going to work? Can a defense that was absolutely awful late last year turn things around with Phillips and the return of linebacker/defensive end Greg Ellis?

DECEMBER 23, 2007
AT LOUISIANA SUPERDOME
1 pm, FOX
Regular Season Series: Eagles Lead 15-9
Eagles Record At New Orleans: 7-8
Last Meeting: January 13, 2007 -- Saints, 27-24
(Divsional Playoffs)

Game Overview: Saints come back in second half as running game plows over Eagles defense.

This should be a fantastic game and one worthy of an NFC Championship Game preview. The Saints have been relatively quiet in the off-season, but they return a team that enjoyed a rebirth last season. The running game is strong with Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush, and quarterback Drew Brees has the controls to a good passing attack. Second-year receiver Marques Colston is the go-to player in the air.

Defensively, the Saints are looking to shore up a spotty secondary and are expected to do so in the draft. New Orleans gets good pressure from its front four and has a sound, effective scheme, especially at home.

The Eagles are familiar with the challenge of playing in the Louisiana Superdome. The noise level is incredible and the fan passion is impressive. The Eagles lost both games there last year by identical 27-24 scores and need this game to get over the hump in New Orleans.

DECEMBER 30, 2007
AT LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
1 pm, CBS
Regular Season Series: Tied, 5-5
Eagles Home Record Vs. Bills: 2-2
Last Meeting: Sept. 28, 2003 - Eagles, 23-13

Game Overview: Brian Westbrook sealed the deal with a 62-yard TD run to account for the final score and the Eagles ran for 176 yards on 34 carries. The Eagles took a quick 10-0 lead and controlled the game from there.

Buffalo has decided to allow youth to be served by allowing veterans like linebacker Takeo Spikes (Eagles), cornerback Nate Clements (49ers) and linebacker London Fletcher (Redskins) to leave during the off-season. The Bills traded running back Willis McGahee and drafted Marshawn Lynch.

Buffalo has quarterback J.P. Losman, who could be on his way to some outstanding things after a solid 2006 season. He has an emerging star at wide receiver in Lee Evans and a promising offensive line. Losman is a hit-or-miss kid, and he will be an interesting target for Jim Johnson's array of blitzes.

The Bills are going to play hard football. They are going to be aggressive on defense. But do they have enough to stick with the Eagles when Philadelphia spreads the field and comes after the defense with the run or pass? The Eagles are going to challenge some of the youngsters on this Bills defense very quickly.
